Grass Fed Beef
Our steers are Organically
Raised and Forage Fed.
100% GRASS FINISHED
$3.60/pound based upon hanging weight
At Hammer’s Farm, we proudly raise beef for the family who wants healthy, natural meat. Our animals are raised humanely with plenty of sunshine and fresh air while they graze in our pasture. Our beef is hormone and antibiotic free. We specialize in forage feed beef; meaning our steers are fed only grass or hay. We also have the limited capability to grain finish selected steers. They are fed only home grown grains; still organic but having a little more fat.
Our animals are ready when they reach 1000 to 1400 pounds live weight. Some are ready every 30 to 60 days. We sell our beef by the “side” (half) or the “whole” animal. We personally transport your beef to the butcher for preparation as you’ve selected under “Instructions” section on this web site. We recommend you refer to the Cuts of Beef page then practice filling out the Cutting Instructions to the butcher to assist and supplement your knowledge in instructing the butcher how you wish your grassfed beef cut and packaged. Follow the Order Beef link to place your order. It will ask for a $400.00 deposit, per side, to confirm your order.
We sell our beef at $3.60 a pound (based upon hanging weight). The butcher’s fee is not included in our charge. Generally his fee is fifty cents per pound based upon hanging weight. You will pay him directly when you pick-up your order. We use a very reputable butcher in Ste. Genevieve, MO where we are confident you get our meat and all of it. When you pick-up your beef it will be packaged, labeled, and frozen according to your order instructions. We know you will be pleased with the taste and quality and you will have the peace of mind knowing your family is eating beef that has not been fed growth hormones, unnatural additives or feeds that are unnatural to the species.
A deposit of $400 for a “half” or $800 for a “whole” secures your reserved beef. The remainder is due when the butcher “halfs” the beef, thereby setting the “hanging weight.” We accept check, cash, or credit card.
Here is the rule of thumb for a “whole” beef: From an 1,100 pound (live weight) beef you can expect the hanging weight to be 725 lbs (363 lbs per side). After the butcher cuts the beef expect around 478 lbs (240 lbs per side) of frozen beef, depending upon your cutting instructions. For your reference, 350 lbs. of packaged beef, or a “half”, will mostly fill an empty 13 cubic ft freezer.
